Lovely town of Lismore was founded by Saint Mochuda, also known as Saint Carthage. In the 7th century, Lismore was the site of the well-known Lismore Abbey. It is also home to Lismore Castle, the birthplace to the “Father of Chemistry”, Robert Boyle (of Boyle’s Law). A medieval manuscript, the Book of Lismore (now in England – the owner of the castle is an Englishman) and the Lismore Crozier (now in the National Museum of Ireland) were discovered there in the 19th century. Lismore won the Irish Tidy Towns Competition in 2004. Another notable building is the cathedral. dedicated to St Carthage.
