As a young man Richard Joyce is said to have been captured by pirates and sold into slavery to a rich Turkish goldsmith. Joyce learned the trade of goldsmithing and eventually earned his freedom. When he returned to Ireland and the love he left behind he created the Claddagh Ring.
Over the years the Claddagh has become one of the most enduring symbols of Ireland. Passed down from mother to daughter, becoming family heirlooms. Today the Claddagh is recognized world wide as the symbol of Love, Loyalty and Friendship.
When the ring is worn on the right hand with the heart facing outwards it tells that your heart has not yet been taken. Worn on the right hand with the heart facing inwards and it shows you have friendship and love under consideration. If worn on your left hand with the heart turned inwards it means your heart has joined with another forever.
All our Claddagh rings are hallmarked and made in Ireland.
